Dentures and Partials

Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing and partial dentures are used when some natural teeth still remain. Partial dentures are attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, connected by metal framework.

Removable partial dentures attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments, which are generally more esthetic than metal clasps and nearly invisible. Crowns on your natural teeth may improve the fit of a removable partial denture, and are usually required with attachments. Your dentist at comfort dental associates will help you determine which type is right for you.

It may take a while to grow comfortable with dentures, but your dentist will work with you to adjust the dentures to enable them to fit more comfortably.

A denture can make eating a more pleasant experience by replacing missing teeth. It may also cause difficulties initially with speaking, but practice can help you become accustomed to speaking properly with your denture.

Your dentist can also provide recommendations on caring for and cleaning your denture.

If your denture needs adjustments or causes other problems, you should see your dentist to make adjustments.

Your dentist or dental hygienist can demonstrate how to properly brush and clean between teeth.

Dental implants may be an alternative to the use of a denture, but not everyone is a candidate for implants. We will advise you if an implant is an option in your case.
